As so often before, people do not try understand.
I've never said it is something to aspire to. On the contrary, i do not want you to feel this pain. I am glad to hear that you have had experience in this matter. Perhaps you are assuming too much, though? I am talking of the misunderstanding when people mistake emos or goths for depressed individuals. If you cannot interpret what i'm writing, that is not my problem, but yours.
As a side note, i said that most people feel uneasy living in the society as it is today. Naturally, we all need love. see my goal. Depressed individuals especially.
You really do succeed in misinterpreting to the most extreme.
Still, i actually can understand your point of wiew and your point in your argument. Indeed, the case could very well be as you say it is. It is not, however, in my case. If you remove your prejudice and assumptions, perhaps you could understand and see my goal.
I know i am sounding pompous, and it is not my intent. Still, there will always be things that you will not understand, and things i will not understand. Ever. I can only try to help others, including you, to understand me. You should do the same, instead of assuming i do anything for myself and thus feel the need to destroy my every argument with retorics and a quite aggressive behaviour.
Couldn't you try to understand instead? And then you are most welcome to present constructive criticism and arguments. But only if you understand me. And naturally, the same goes for me and everone else.
Best wishes //Taoisman
hey...i totally agree with u...humanity is a flockbased and what ppl dont get is that emo takes on all forms..some ppl use it for attention BUT there are so many depressed kids out there and some ppl stereotype them into the EMO category...pls ppl just htink about ur comments some kid have really really succy lives!!!
That was a fantastic episode. I'm too old to intelligently dikker about what "emo" means; but suffice it to say the character works well as grinning indictment of self-absorbed teens, everywhere.
I look forward to more improvised urns and black-garbed kvetching!
Crista Flanagan is genius in this. I'll definitely be keeping up with this podcast.
It would be fun to see this character used on a MadTV skit.
I agree Hope seems a bit more goth than emo. Check out this video for some emo goodness http://www.bofunk.com/video/2675/you_must_be_emo.html
Aside from that, good show. I've been patiently waiting for the next episode.
You gotta love it. Almost as funny as the video itself are some of the comments. To those of you that haven't realized: This is a joke. Anyways about the video itself, I loved it. It truly is "the funniset thing since Red vs. Blue". I will be waiting for future episodes.
P.S. Emos are the second lowest form of life, preceded only by Women-Beaters. They should either learn to deal with their problems, or keep them bottled up inside. I know that this isn't very good for you, but it has always worked for me. Oh, and if anyone wants to give me shit about hating emos, you can contact me by adding me over MSN at bigbombs@mail.ru. We can have a nice long chat about it then.

After Ask A Ninja slowing for a couple of weeks I was dubious as to whether Hope would be any good, and I was impressed.
But then anything that rips into silly EMO kids is great in my eyes as they just need to get on with life. We all have things to deal with, and most of us (well at least us English, lol) just get on with it.
Waiting for the next episode.
Hope, where can we send our chalk dust? I morn the words scrubbed and beaten from slate and felt

I loved this video. I can't wait for the next one to come out. My favorite part was the urn made out of the fondue pot. Christa's delivery is what really makes this work. It's difficult to make a simple line like "He's on student council" funny but she does it.
Oh my god, people--grow a sense of humor. That was probably the funniest thing I've seen since Red vs. Blue.

Keep em' coming!
...but still hilarious, and I say that as a member of the Goth scene. Crista makes a hot Goth Girl to boot.
Seriously though, I couldnt stop squirming in introspective discomfort and laughing out loud at the whole bit; it just hits too close to home. The last part especially floored me though because I AM moving abroad to teach English in little over a month.
Keep it up guys. Dynamite stuff.
Lmao, I love this video so much. Can't wait to see more.
So I find this imitation of emo people very funny--sue me. Yes, I'm aware that there are people out there that are hurting emotionally, and yes, I believe that they need to be helped. Seriously, though, I still think that they just need to get a grip on life. Excuse me if I'm sounding ignorant of them, but do take into mind that "emo" people are also being ignorant for thier selfishness and rebelliousness of the real world--a world that each and every one of us has to deal with whether it be easy as pie or difficult as hell. Emo is NOT the way to be. Wake up, buddy. Quit slitting your wrists and dwelling on a single life issue.
Are you referring to me? In that case, I don't think you are in a position to judge what kind of person I am, or what my problems are. You say you are aware of the fact that there are people who suffer emotionally, but that does not mean you can understand them. You have a point when saying we all have to bear with the problems of the world, but what you do not seem to understand is that some people have suffered in a different way. I suppose one could never understand if one has not experienced it oneself... Also, you should not assume so much regarding people. You can indeed judge emo people from the picture that you have been given by your own experience and perceived general facts, but there is ALWAYS the individual question. As you could see in my previous comment, I partially explain why this category of depressed people exists. Most often, the depression exists because the individual in question has not received enough love. If one does not receive love, how could one possibly learn how to love? And what is left? What is the meaning? The only thing left is hope. That is what I want truly depressed people to understand. Even though all is destroyed, and nothing matters anymore, one can always hope that one can make things better. One can hope that there is a meaning with life, and live trough the love of others. That is why I want to give my eternal empathy and sympathy to all of you true emo/depressed people out there. I know how you feel, but there is always hope. That is all we have (and each other), when our world is as destroyed as it is... The loss can still be replaced...
I hope... ;)
So...can you perhaps try to understand now? Or is the inadequate amount of empathy clouding your vision? Are you blind? Can you be helped? Sure you can! Just believe...and try the best you can. I'm rooting for y'all! TRY TO UNDERSTAND! It's not your fault, but perhaps you can still remove the clouds... In that way, you too have a great problem. It all rests on our shoulders, if we want to change anything.
So try…hope…and love…
How 'bout it?
Edit: Just some misspellings. I know i probably shouldn't bitch about this in a place like this, but it's not like i can contain and hinder my idealistic champion-behavior ;)
Yeah, I see what you mean. Thanks for explaining it to me patiently (or at least that's how I believe you did ;]), and I apologize for any insensitive impressions I may have given you.
Honestly, I find myself on the borderline of this topic between "get over it" and "I feel for you; you need a hug". Looks like I gave my first comment a tone which suggested more of the "get over it" idea, now that I re-read it. I tried not to be so harsh but eh, I guess it still didn't come out right. I have a distinct stand on this discussion, but I'm really not that good at explaining myself, I guess. I didn't mean to sound that inconsiderate; my apoligies again.
Maybe the internet barrier made me sound that way. *shrug* @_@
I must thank you for showing effort of understanding. I'm also glad that you can take me seriously.
Perhaps the best way to gain experience regarding this matter is meeting with people who are suffering in the same way. Not that i think you have the energy to indulge yourself with that. I do not blame you, however. It would probably end in you becoming depressed since your eyes would, most likely, be opened.
Just...
I want you all to understand. The pain that can be caused simply by living in this segregated society, with all these confusing values and expectations. Because of this, caused by consumerism, over-population, and the development of anti-social technology, many also become left out. They are left out from the masses, since they are not like everone else. The human is a flock-animal, you know. So, since they are secluded, they can not possibly recieve sufficient love and attention. If some of these seem unempathetic, it may indeed be because of the fact that if one does not recieve enough love, one can not possibly learn to love at all.
THAT...is the most horrible abomination this world can present up to date...
Naturally, there are also "emos" who are depressed without, it seems, a reason. Either, these people are depressed simply because of how the society has treated them, or simply how the world is. Let's face it, the world is not a pretty sight. And, with risk of sounding idealistic and naive, i do believe all could be solved if we all could just be more empathetic. But, as it is, i have accepted the fact that the human race is not a very empathetic one. However, i have to believe that we can, as individuals choose how to behave. Even if the result of mankind cannot be changed by that, we can set up personal goals, and live by that. That is all a single person can do.
Hope, try and love.
Post Sciptum: I am also aware that there are "emos" who only act depressed. They do this because they need more attention. So they, also, suffer from the twisted world we live in.
Remember that, we all have our demons to defeat. Other people can only make that easier or harder. Possible...or impossible. I do sometimes wish we were not so dependant on others...
Although, that would probably only make things worse...i know.
Naw, she wasn't emo for real. But if it's supposed to be funny, i guess it could be. First off, one cannot act emo, one can only be emo. It shows very clearly that she's not emo for real. One has to be depressed for real, ya know? Because this does not feel authentic, it's not really funny. Also, emo kids are NOT funny. Those who suffer, should be given love, not become ridiculed. Those who ACT emo or goth, do this to fit into a group, and this fact alone proves that they to need attention. It is a fact that the human is a flock-animal. It is all a product of over-population which has it's roots in our unnatural, self-destructive behaviour...
Anywho, sorry if i got serious but i just couldn't stand this unfathomable lack of empathy that exists in this modern world of ours...
If ya wanna make this funny, she should be depressed for real. And if she is depressed for real, i want to give her, and everyone else who suffers, all the love they need and deserve.
so i can't be a part of your little club unless i really am depressed? man, that's something to aspire to. yeah, people who are really suffering, in a real, true way, should be given love. if it isn't possible? tough. the people who are that real world pain? they tend to bottle it up. but a suburbanite sophomore doesn't know real pain. they can project the illusion of pain, but that just makes them painful to watch. i did the goth troubled thing back in the mid nineties, and watching these casts are an amusing reminder of the people i distanced myself from to become a sane and rational person.
you realize you're just stringing pseudointellectual phrases together? it's all rather unintelligible. so the people who are in real pain need love; the people who are faking pain to fit a scene need attention; the fakers shouldn't be made fun of, or at least aren't funny; if you want to make fun of someone, they'd better be feeling real pain first; and if you feel like making fun of those funny real-depressed people, you should really just give them love instead.
i feel it. you CARE.
I think I can say, without fear of contradiction, that this is the greatest thing on the internet. Ever. And I'm including pr()N and Google Earth in that.
MORE PLEASE!
always love your stuff on MadTV. Hilarious as Hope!
This site needs real RSS feeds. Not everybody uses iTunes...
Yeah a little too Gothy... my sister claims the emo flag and she wears a lot of black band shirts (of bands that she can't remember or has never heard of or of local punk bands) and falling apart jeans. Also black Cons of course. Hope should have an Emo boyfriend with Emo bangs and skin tight jeans. Find the "Emo Song" and live by it. But this was hilarious nonetheless and I love it.
She's got the whining thing down but she needs to sound more depressed. She sounds too much like a valley girl. Her voice should be more downtempo in pace. I do love the chalkboard words are dying references. It makes me suffocate in a black abyss of dispair where I feel like daggers are slitting my throat and it makes me more depressed and sad and now I just want to go be alone, but I am already alone and that just makes me ore sad life is so sad alnyway..
Seriously funny stuff. I almost decorated my monitor with coffee watching it.
Crista, I guess I missed you at VloggerCon, but EMO is my new favorite vlog!! Hope is so misunderstood :-(
Hope!!! I know exactly what you are going through! I love you!
This really spoke to me, I mean what about all the dodgeballs that get bounced around outside, I mean how do they feel, always taking out the slow kid. I cry for those dodgeballs...
Hope, I completely feel for you!
lol But really, this is some funny stuff. Keep it up!
Needs more RSS feed.
Great video. Don't worry Hope, you've got an entire internets to make you feel better.

Now, back to the subject!
I'm not an emo kid. Hell, I'm a freaking hippie. But she looks way more goth than emo. Next time you might want to try a kitschy t-shirt with some totally random cultural reference on it, preferably from the '80s. Emo kids, despite being born so late in the '80s that they can't have any recollection of it, seem to obsess over the '80s. If you can, find her a J*E*M shirt, or if you can, Milli Vanilli. I'd go with jeans and a metal studded belt too, if you can.
So much funny I love it.
It was great to meet and interview you guys at vloggercon. It was even funnier watching it again on the web.

That is about the funniest thing I've seen on the internet in a looong time! I've been out of high school forever, but my daughter's a freshman and she has some friends that are really reminiscent of Hope. Keep up the good work!
